What books should I ask for for my birthday?

HeyBye27: What books should I ask for for my birthday?
I’m a guy, 14 turning 15. My favorite books include the Harry Potter Books (obviously), The Lightning Theif by Rick Riordan, and The Book Theif by Markus Zusak. I tend to like adventure and fantasy books, but I’m starting to get into some of the classics that I read at school like Of Mice and Men. Do you have any suggestions for books that I should ask for for my birthday?

You might like the Ray Bradbury stories–there’s a great anthology. My son’s about your age, and really liked the Pendragon series by DJ McHale–I think you’d really get into them based on the examples of books you like. It’s non-stop adventures with great, intelligent characters and smart storylines. Saving the universe, time-travel, creepy villains, etc.

Scout for books online and ask for the ones that you know you can never really buy. 😉

Kidding aside, I’d recommend the Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke. It’s a really good book that tells about issues of growing up and it has a really great twist in its plot. I enjoyed it, so I hope you’d like it too.

p.s. I love The Book Thief. It moved me to tears several times.

If you like to read which is great you should ask for a gift card to a book store so you can save up for something you like there. All little bit helps towards the bigger pictures and most people would give enough to cover all or most of the price of a book. There are several books about Harry Potter out there that are not by the Author but about the books, or predictions for the books.

I would definitely look into The Lord of the Rings if I were you. It’s a great series and sounds like just what you’re interested in.

The Golden Compass is also good, or Abarat, if you can handle books that are very dark and twisted.

Also, if you want to read some more classics, look at Lord of the Flies. Animal Farm is also a good one, and possibly A Tale of Two Cities.

Sabriel and the following books in the series are also really good, but written more for a female audience. Still, you might want to give that a try.

My sister also recommends Monster Blood Tattoo, but I haven’t read it, so I wouldn’t know personally.
