Martha E: What are the words to “Oh Christmas Tree”? I want the ones that have “how lovely are thy branches”.
I was printing out the lyrics to favorite Christmas songs for a singalong, when I found that the words for “Oh, Christmas Tree” were NOT the ones I remembered from my childhood. Even a search did not pull up the ones I remembered. Does anyone know the ones that go something like
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree
How lovely are thy branches
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas Tree
How dum de dum dum dum dum
La la la laaaa, in summertime
La la la laaaa, in wintertime.
Oh Christmas tree etc.

Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree
How lovely are your branches
Not only green in summer’s heat
But also winter’s snow and sleet
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree
How lovely are your branches
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree
Of all the trees most lovely
Each year you bring to me delight
Shining bright through the longest night
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree
Of all the trees most lovely
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree
Your beauty green will teach me
That hope and joy and faithfulness
Are precious things I can posess
Oh Christmas Tree, oh Christmas tree
Your beauty green will teach me
It is original in German, I think!
Any way, I have the German version of it

Each year you bring to me delight, meaning in the christmas night
Oh Christmas tree, oh christmas tree, of all the trees most lovely
Oh Christmas tree, oh christmas tree, with faithful leaves unchanging

Your boughs are green, in sommers glow and do not fade in winters snow

Second Version
Writer: Traditional Trad. Oh Christmas Tree is the English text version of the popular German Christmas carol “O Tannenbaum”. The melody is based on a folk tune, and there are various lyrics sung to the tune, the earliest known version of which dates back to 1550. “Oh Christmas Tree” is popular all over the world, having been translated into many different Languages. In France for example it is known as „Le Sapin“.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us.
They’re green when summer days are bright;
They’re green when winter snow is white.
O, Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
How oft at Christmas tide the sight,
O green fir tree, gives us delight!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
You give us so much pleasure!
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us.
They’re green when summer days are bright;
They’re green when winter snow is white.
O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree,
Your branches green delight us!
