It is only suffering if you compare it to the world.

btw, What does poking yourself in the hand, feet or side have to do with suffering like Jesus. To take up ones cross and follow Jesus is suffering that has to do with dying to selfishness.

Stigmata is not about us wanting to suffer to “Prove” holiness.

To want to “Prove” in and of itself is a self-centered emotion, people that are holy, are not self centered.

Some Native Americans had a ritual at some point in a young man’s life where he was hung inside of a lean-to with hooks that went under his skin. He had to hang there bleeding for 3(?) or so days. During this time he was supposed to recieve a message from the Great Spirit (God). Some of these men would die.
