savagely_honest1: What are the correct measurements for trim pieces on my entertainment center?
My entertainment center measures 26 7/8″ by 60 7/8″ on the top with two lower shelfs measuring 11 7/8″ by 60 7/8″. I’m using simple corner guards for trim. I want them to fit together at 45 degree angles. I’ve tried twice before and the pieces were too short ( I didn’t compensate for the trim’s thickness) in one or both dimensions.

a 45 deg measurement is taken from the inside , so a 26 and 7/8: is where you want to cut it at a 45 deg, there will be more on the out side than inside,
William B is absolutely correct. The measurements should be on the inside of the angles.Answer by thewrangler_sw
Actually, the measurement will be on the part of the trim that sits against the wood… this will NOT be the ‘inside angle’ of the trim, if it is overlapping the top of the unit.
Im picturing a 90 degree corner gaurd here… I assume that is what you are talking about… if so… then the measurement for the angle needs to be on the inside lip of the trim, but not the very inside angle (where the lip of the trim will overhang the top of the unit).
Here is my suggestion… take the front piece… make sure it is longer than you need…. then… hold it in place (second pair of hands or tape works well here), and mark the surface on the backside of the trim, at the corners of the unit. THAT is where you want to cut your 45’s. Cut it a bit long to start with, and trim it to fit. Next cut a 45 on the side pieces, and with the front piece in place, butt them up againts the front piece, and mark the back, where it needs to be cut flush. (this will be a straightforward 90 degree cut)
This is the simplest way to get what you need.
