NYCREW: What are the best motels to stay in on route from NY to LA?
I am planning a cross country trip from New York to Los Angeles and wondered where the best motels, cheap hotels, scenic routes and even best places to visit are? Thanks.

TripAdvisor.com has lists of hotels along with comments from past guests.

You can get route info from AAA if you’re a member, and if you’re planning a cross-country drive it would be a good idea to join.

Places to visit are detailed in guidebooks such as Frommer’s, Fodor’s, Lonely Planet, etc, either printed or on line. Or at websites for the cities you plan to visit.

I did the drive many times between 2000 and 2004. You don’t want to go too cheap, Best Western, Holiday Inn are cheap enough. You can detour off your route to see things like the Grand Canyon.

Any of the chain motels are good. Like Motel 6, Econolodge, Super 8 and the like.

there are quite a few sites that you can search that will likely show you great hotels at the best prices available. check out the website BookMe and you will be able to compare prices on all the reputable travel sites in just a couple minutes. it’s very convenient and will save you a bunch of time and money. Also, make sure you buy them online… otherwise they charge much higher fees for phone orders. good luck.
