What are the advantages or disadvantages of buying a desktop computer fo home use?

racinfan: What are the advantages or disadvantages of buying a desktop computer fo home use?
I have a decent laptop computer but my desktop is obsolete. I use the desktop for homeowner business, paying bills, letter writing, storing and processing photos. I am not a gamer and don’t need space on my desk. Am I dumb for still wanting a desktop computer in this age of wireless networks?

there isn’t really a disadvantage to buying a new computer except money out of the pocket. i think you will be happy with buying a new computer because you can get these things done a lot quicker than before

A desktop gets your more computing power and disk space for less money. Laptops give you portability. Nothing wrong with a desktop. I use mine. I’m on it right now. Also you can connect your desktop wireless if you want to eliminate some cables.

Buying a new desktop for these works (as you described) is not a good idea. Laptop is ideal for you. Desktop takes much space, at least a full computer table! Also there is a mess of connection cables. So stay with laptop.

Absolutely not! most of the things you do on a computer you do at home! were its reasonably quite and you can think about what your doing! A good desktop is way more efficient than a laptop…You can make a desktop “wireless” network too just like a laptop…however its very difficult to cart around a desktop! I used a lappy at work all the time cause i was “on the road” most of the time..but I still had to come back to the office to download the stuff …and fill out my time card! ( couldn’t do it from a lappy…too much chance of forgery) I have 3 desktop running at the same time..one for my business one just for internet and one for games! of course I build my own so I know what I have! My kids all have laptop cause there always on the go…but who do ya think they come to when they need large storage!
