i know a couple people who own little sharks. I’ve heard you can own a freshwater stingray (are those even real??). Ive seen a video where someone had a pet penguin and it caried around a little pingu backpack (so cute). What other wierd pets have you heard of that are legal.

Well, most people think it’s weird that I have house rabbits that have huge pens, play in my living room every day, and are just as much a part of the family as my cats.

And yes, freshwater stingrays are real. I’ve seen them at a specialty aquarium store. But they need HUGE tanks, very special diets, and are delicate.

Legal is the important word. Penguins would more than likely not be legal. Depending on where you live most animals outside of cats and dogs are in some way illegal or require special licenses.

Back home in Mass there was a town that outlawed ferrets because they bit people but that was also the same town that was ok with having less than ten goats.

I considered getting one of those enormous millipedes (it was like, a foot long. Huge.)

I’ve wanted an octopus since I saw a nature show about them. This research facility had one in a tank and kept the crabs to feed it in another tank nearby. Every morning, they would find crab shells in the octopus’s tank…but nobody was feeding the octopus.

Finally, they watched it one night–the octopus was climbing out of its tank, walking across the floor (well, I guess you could call it walking), climbing up to the crab tank, getting a crab, and walking back to its own tank.

It would get back in its own tank to eat and leave the crab shell in there, I guess, to counfound its owners.

Awesome.

Or a squid–they can flash biophosphorescent lights and they’re as smart as octopi.

Cephalopods are definitely the way to go.

Most any exotic animal would be on odd pet, but if you want to know a wierd pet go get yourself a mud skipper, they are legal to own still if I remember right.

As for that penguin video, its from Japan, and owning a penguin without the proper licences is extreamly illegal in the US, you have to prove that you can care and provide for the animal before they will even consider granting you a licence for a penguin.

My friend has a chicken. It wears a diaper and runs around the house like a dog.

She got it as a joke gift, but she “fell in love”.

Takes care of her roach problem like a charm. She’s never seen any bugs at all since she got the chicken.

It attacks toes though, you can’t walk barefoot. And lays eggs, but she doesn’t mind that!

Answer by omgimbeast
