Harper: What are my rights for posting comments on a networking website about events happening at work?
I was involved in a motor vehicle collision recently while on the job. It was a “no fault” collision, as reported by the highway patrol. I posted about my “accident” on a popular networking website. The next day I was contacted by the head supervisor and told that there was a possibility that i could be fired, not for the collision but for what I posted. Any help would be greatly appreciated by anyone with law experience. Thanks.

I have heard of people posting about there work place, Not a good Idea if the wrong person gets pissed off and you are out of a job, Right or wrong they have more money than you.
You have the right to post anything you want.
Your boss has the right to fire you if he doesn’t like it.

Answer by mcq316I know that more and more employers are cracking down on SOCIAL networking as it pertains to work. I don’t agree with it, but that’s how it is. If all you posted was a recount of the accident, they’ll probably just warn you this time.Answer by Larry
49 of the 50 states are “at will” meaning you can be fired at anytime for any or no reason. There are exceptions but I don’t see it applying hereAnswer by Ruth Ann
that all depends on what your company Policies are.Answer by JoelKatz
This just recently came up in two recent court cases. They aren’t exactly like yours, one involved expressing unpopular political opinions and one involved being unwilling to work on certain days for religious reasons, but I think they’re similar enough to tell you what the answer is:
1) You can say whatever you like.
2) If it’s even arguably relevant to your job (which this is), you can be fired for it. (Your employer has freedom of association rights.)
3) Government agencies such as unemployment cannot consider your termination for cause as that would violate your first amendment rights. They will consider you to have been fired without just cause.
Answer by CaoedhenIf company policy is that you use work time and resources for *work*, not reading and posting on Facebook, you are out the door without any 1st Amendment issues or recourse. It will be fired for cause, and that’s the end of it.
What you posted makes no difference, the fact that you posted anything at all from a work computer is all it takes.
