tyzekiel: What agency should I talk to if I want to report a scam involving buying used cars online?
I had a car for sale on an online site and I got an email offering to buy my car for the advertised price. This guy wants to send me a check for $ 10,000 for a $ 4,000 car. And then wants me to send him a check back for the balance, ok, obviously a scam. My question is who do I report this to? I already filed a complaint/observation with the FBI, but they are taking their sweet time to get back to me. I haven’t actually been scammed yet, but if an agency wanted to work with me we could probably catch this guy. Thanks for any help.

Your local law enforcement office or the State attorneys general office, Department of motor verticals, State police.
Very wise of you not to send a ‘refund’ check. Talk to your local TV station, they love news stories like this, and can probably get the attention of the authorities. Your car ins people would like to know about this too. Have heard about people being robbed like this. terrible Best wishesAnswer by tiger_year_2000
Most likely an insurance scam, or they borrowed money from a lender, and the amount is more than the asking price. Sounds wierd though, some research could help, local law and news personnel could definately help.
