: What age should a parrot first start molting?
I have a 3-4 yr old quaker parrot he’s been losing alot of feathers lately.

I’d be really surprised if he didn’t start moulting sooner – parrots usually moult at least once a year to refresh old feathers. He probably moults more often but in far less amounts, to the point where it might not be noticeable.
He’s likely just going through a big moult. Offer him lots of greens, water and toys to keep him amused during.
Answer by Kathkell18I love Quaker Parrots, they’re so full of personality ^.^ Parrots usually start their first molt at 6-12 months old and can actually molt 2-3 times a year, they cant molt all at once or they’d be butt naked. A molt can last up to 10 weeks because it takes that long for new feathers to come in. I agree he’s probably just molting a little at a time, however now he could be finishing up his molt so he might loose more feathers.
