USB ports don’t work with any type of “mass storage device”?

Alexia: USB ports don’t work with any type of “mass storage device”?
My USB ports recently quit working with any type of storage device, mainly my ipod and flash drive. The “safely remove hardware” button comes up in the bottom left corner, but the device is not found in “my computer”. I have tried changing the drive letter, but the device isn’t in the window to do so. However, anything else that is plugged in, my printer and mouse, work fine. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

Do this happen to ALL mass storage devices? (try at least 7 different, ask you friends for help)
If so, try to see if the mass storage devices are correctly installed if they are, try reinstalling the USB ports
