Joe: Is the trading floor of the NYSE going to be obsolete?
some say that the “specialist” and the trading floor itself is outdated and going to be obsolete. why would someone say this? am i missing something?

Well, the specialists are going to be needed for some time; but the trading floor is something left over from from the early 20th century. I am not certain how many actual trades even go through the NYSE any longer.
As more and more is done on computers, it will likely change considerably. There might still be the need for specialists, but not for them to be on the “trading floor”.Answer by Ed Atun
Yes, it is already obsolete. London closed theirs and no one has missed it at all..
