Start at Coyote point and work your way north
on any of the frontage roads that parallel
101.
If you get a map, what am I saying? use
GoogleEarth and you can explore the area
for accessible roads and small parks
near the airport.
380/101 is a good spot just north of the airport.
That and Coyote point are your best bets.
Landings at SFO are generally done on runways 28L and 28R. The approaches to both of these runways start over San Jose area and fly down the bay to align with the runways. A couple fairly easy point to see them overhead (other than in a boat of course) would be from the Dumbarton or San Mateo bridges. The San Mateo bridge is much closer to the airport, so it would probably be your best bet.
Because most of the approach is done over water, you’d really need to be out in the bay in order to get a close-up of an airplane flying overhead.
