♥Have a Nice Day!♥: The Iowa flooding was compared to the Katrina floods which was devastating where were the celebs to help them?
What a difference in responses? I guess all the media coverage was a part of it – celebs love free publicity. I was reminded again of this with Gustav approaching. Good to see Bobby Jindal in La I think he is a positive for that state.

It may be due to the vast difference in population coupled with the size and scope of damage when comparing one to the other.
It’s because Iowans aren’t screaming for trailers, food, water, clothing, and debit cards like what happened in New Orleans. The celebrities always hop in when it is a destination they like. Look at NYC on 9-11. Where were the celebrities when we had the Oklahoma City bombing? Nowhere. They were nowhere to be found for Iowa either. No telethons, no contributions. It makes me sick. I have made a concerted effort not to go to the movies because I hate Hollywood so much.Answer by A Noun, A Verb and P.O.W.
If ‘celebs’ were there you’d be asking why did they get involved for some free publicity.
We can judge Jindal after this hurricane.
Answer by BrianThe folks in Iowa pulled together and helped themselves. They didn’t require major help from telethons and the like..
Julie gave a good answer that I never considered. It seems like the celebrity “hot spots” get a lot of attention while middle America could rot for all they care..
Answer by Homeowner, Married, 2.5 kidsI think you’re right – the media coverage and the celebs love free publicity.
And to the 1st responder – what difference does 1,500 versus 500 deaths really make in terms of whether or not a family, a community, a county or a state should get help? And you’re assuming that the poster didn’t volunteer and we all know what assuming does.
I apologize for Katydid’s ignorance.
EDIT: And Phil’s ignorance, too.
Answer by LSUBallsNot many down-trodden blacks in Iowa. Just a bunch of hard working white people who get to work rebuilding when something goes awry. Democrats are to blame because they created an entire society of people that can’t fend for themselves. All they can do is look for a hand out and bltch about “the man” keeping them down.Answer by bill
Who cares, most of the celebs are high school drop-outs, only there to entertain us.Answer by Phil M
Did the flooding in Iowa displace 500,000 citizens? Did the flooding wind up killing 1,500 people? No, but it still uprooted entire communities…..doesn’t that matter?
And there will always a difference in responses between a “working hard” community (most communities in the mid-west) and a metro-community….
Smaller communities are less reliant on govt officials than larger communities….its the very nature of the two beasts.

Hollywood has many Liberals
Iowa has many ConservativesAnswer by pink♥
well maybe there werent as many deaths as katrina. but have you seen the devestation and destruction in iowa. there are still homes that havent even been opened yet. i live in iowa, i know
oh and as far as i know only 2 celebs have helped out
taylor swift donated $ 100,000 to flood relief. and shawn johnson donated the money she got for qualifying for the olympics
and i would like to know where other celebs were too. because so many people lost their homes, businesses, possesions, and schools.
i find it offending that some people dont see the floods as a big deal.
