Get a good racquet it really helps( I upped my game alot by getting one that really suits me)… Also practice serves everyday that you don’t play a game…..I usually do about 40 serves a day (This really improved my serve…also hit a ball up agianst the wall alot. Practice your cut, forehand and backhand….pactice adding spin( This is the most usefull thing you can ever do…a wall is the only opponent who you cant beat…. finally play people who are better than you….( Like the wall) good luck smoking your brother.
Well, he does have more experience then you. However, you barely start, too tell you the truth you still a novice. Just step up your game, play more matches against others but not the same person because it won’t help much. It’s also good to have a rally partner. If you think you’re in intermediate level, I suggest to choose a new racket. (your brother might make fun of you like, “you can’t even play and you waste money ofn that?” but really he is jealous.) It would really step up you game if you know you play style and which racket suits you. Don’t just choose the good looking racket out of the blue, you would regret it. Just practice, but if you really want to go to a new level, then (expensive) get a coach. Don’t try to catch up to your brother, aim higher.Answer by Sarah
I been playing tennis consistently for about 2 and a half years. I’m going into 7th. I was also a natural at it and love it. But I seriously had no clue when I started how long it took to get good at it. If you have been playing for 5 months you are probably o.k., but trust me after 2 years of practice for 2 hours everyday almost I still learn a lot! You got a long road ahead of you. And if your brother complains tell him to shut up and help you instead of being stupid and bring down your confidence. He might be scared since you are such a natural that eventually you will beat him in a match. 😛 The only way to show him is to approve. To get better I would do group lessons for starters to master the basics and get an idea of the game. It also is really fun to play and meet people which is very important. I usually end up seeing them again when travel to play tournaments. Once you get that down I STRONGLY suggest a private teacher. You should at least have private lessons every week if you want to see progress. That’s when you get individual attention you wouldn’t usually get in group lessons. If your a girl/guy you might want to consider to get a private lesson coach the same gender as you (if your uncomfortable). Tennis is a really competitive sport! You might get some really mean players, but you just have to hold you head up high and keep your confidence up! Your coaches will teach you everything else. One thing I found difficult which I still haven’t perfected is my serve. Practice that as much as you can because if you double fault in a match it can be frustrating. Have you learned how to get top spin yet? Thats important. The “C-loop” is also. The type of racket you use. Like any other sport it will be hard and you will have to push yourself, but its totally worth it. :]
Good luck!
Answer by Matt BDevelop good game play, its essential to win matches. You have to learn how to balance “swining for the fences” and simply pushing it. This will come over time, however will be much easier with lessons. Take private lessons if possible. These are the best because they work individually with you and believe me you will become much better over short periods of time. Also, join a winter tennis club if you havn’t already so that you can continue to play through out the year. Oh and for your brother, tell him-You’ve been playing for 3 years and i’ve been playing for 5 monthes. For you to tell me that i suck is out of the question. (play him in a match and if possible beat him, if you do than tell him to fuck off. it works every time.Answer by Creon
If you have brother good player, play with him untill you start win every match betwin you. Don’t forget to say thank you and go forward.Answer by Jarrad S
Well if you have a good raquet ,and getting the ball over the net and in play then you are set, but if you really want to up your game, then use your body to swing. Instead of restricting your movement to your arms get low and swing with your torso too. This will increase topspin and make your shots alot harder to get to.
IMPORTANT: you also need to exercise off the court. This will help stamina and speed. Hope this helps 🙂
