GET A PRIVATE COACH, AND NOT A CRAPPY ONE.
How the game works. To play a match the players play until one of them has won 6 games (and at least 2 more than the other). For instance: We play and you win 6 and I win 5 means we have to keep playing until one of us wins 2 more than the other. The game is played scoring like this-1st point is called 15 (don’t ask why) 2nd point is 30 and 3rd point is called 40. If a player has no points it’s called love. So a game starts out love/love (0/0). The first player serves and calls out the score (love/love). Let’s say we’re playing and I’m serving. The first point you win so I continue serving only now the score is love/15 (me 0/ you 1). Get the point? Now what happens if you and I are playing and it gets to 30/45? Now you need to get one more point to win. If I score a point though the score changes to 40/40 (which is a tie). Now that we are tied we have to play until one of us wins 2 points in a row. So let’s say I’m still serving and I score the next point the score changes to add in. Add in? YES. “Add in” is for the person serving and the ‘add out” is for the other side. So if I win the next point the game is over; however, let’s say you score the next point. The score goes back to tie (40/40). If you win the next point it’s now “add out”. Then if you win the next point you’ve won the game. Confusing? I know. Check out wikipedia for more info.
The best workout plan is to get out and play, play, play. Otherwise running is great because you’ll need endurance on the court. Also for strength carry a tennis ball along with you and squeeze it. It’ll build up your wrists.
Moves and Techniques: Best thing to do is always be in motion following the ball. Bend your knees ALWAYS to meet it and stay towards the middle of the court all the way in the back. Most have a white line dividing where to serve. I use that as my reference to stand by. Keep your racket parallel to the ground and swing all the way through. Practice, practice and practice. You’ll get it.
