: I start photography this year for school, what is a good starting film camera?
The school wants $ 300 for a film camera for photography, I don’t want to have to pay that much. And suggestions on a good starter camera.

I think Nikon still makes a 35mm with manual capability. I personally prefer the Olympus OM-1n. You might could snag one with a 50mm 1.8 for less than 3 bills.
I went to the local pawn shops in my area and found an amazing manual Nikon for $ 80. The first one I chose didn’t actually work, so make sure the camera you are buying is in working order first. Basically everyone in my Photography classes bought their cameras from a pawn shop or 2nd hand store. I’d check there first!Answer by scottyinthesac
If they want you to get a full manual camera, Pentax K1000 is the best one to learn on. It’s famous for that, and being indestructible. You can pick on up at almost any camera shop or online for well under $ 300.Answer by (:
try the nikon fm10 its about 300 i believe, theres a fuji film one but i forget the name. 😡 . i dont have one of those though, i have a promaster2500pk super, its nice and works pretty well(other than the 1 problem i had with the film haha) you could try looking on ebay. You could try going into a local camera store and seeing if they have used ones (hunts in massachusetts does) amazon and some other places sell used ones. used ones are usually just as good and alot cheaper! dont give your money to the school, they might get you some sort of camera that may not feel good at all in your hands. Use the money you have to buy something that really suits you.
make sure you get one that is metal not plastic, like mine!
(and invest in a uv filter, they’re like 10 dollars and protect your lenses! and they help in the sunlight)
and get a strap for your camera! get covers for both ends of the lens(es) and keep them in a bag!
there are plenty of good ones you can get
the Pentax K1000 is one that you can snag with a 50mm lens for under $ 50 on craigslist, ebay, or your local newspaper.
the Canon AE-1 and AE-1 program
Minolta X-700
Nikon F- any of them will do fine
if you are wanting to go into DSLR photography later on in life, stick with Nikon or Pentax, you can use all their lenses on new DSLR’s
