dasielady: Staff Accounant for Huge retailer, job specializes in real estate… SALARY???
I am interviewing for a position with a huge retail store, to work at thier corporate headquarters as a staff accountant specializing in real estate and tax. The company is publically held and and has gross revenues around $ 15 billion, and net income of about $ 1 billion. The position is an exempt position and involves duties such as monitoring the reciept of rent from subleasees, paying rent to landlords, budgeting for property tax adjustments, negotiating resolutions to property tax discrepancies, etc… There are approximately 800 retail stores that I would work with for these responsibilities.
I have accounting experience, a bachelor’s degree, and am a CPA and real estate license candidate. However, this is my first “salaried” position.
Does anyone know the salary range for a position like this? I have researched the salary sites, but don’t see information for accounting with a “real estate” focus.
Thanks!!
I consider myself a real estate license candidate because I have all of the necessary coursework completed and have to take the exam.
The position is located in the mid-west.
I had originally applied for the position a few months ago and was told that it was a managing position more suited for someone with industry experience, or a law degree. Now, I have been contacted and told that the position has been modified to not be a managing position and they think I would be a perfect fit.
Were I to go to a Public accounting firm, rignt now, I would expect a salary offer in the $ 43-49K range, which includes 220 hours of overtime per year. This real estate position does not require overtime.

The focus of the position do not matter. Books are books, the job is the same no matter what the business is.
Everyone in the world is a “real estate license candidate” as they are easy to get and do not even require a high school education. They also know nothing about bookkeeping and are unrelated.
Your salary should equal those of other CPA’s in your area.
Answer by gefyonxWhere is the job located?
Staff accountants where I live (Philly) make anywhere from 40-75K depending on…a whole bunch of things.
If the job requires you to be a CPA, then I would expect the higher end of that range. If it doesn’t, then you are a tad overqualified and it may not pay quite that much.
