Per: Sponsoring my husband to immigrate to Canada. How can he work in the process?
I am sending out immigration forms for my husband. We’re applying from within Canada, but he’d like to work while it’s processing. Which forms would we fill out for that, and when would I send them? With the immigration forms or after I’m approved as a sponsor? Or none of the above?

If he already has a work permit then he can continue working.
otherwise he cannot work for the first part of processing while the application is being processed. He is a visitor and he MUST renew his visitor status before the first 6 months has ended. As a visitor he CANNOT work. CIC will advise him when he is eligible to get a work permit – he must be approved in principal first (stage 1 – called AIP).
If you choose to submit an application for a work permit with the application for PR – which you legally can do – be advised that the work permit application will NOT be processed until the PR application reaches the AIP stage. That may take 3 months or it may take anywhere up to 12 months or more. In the meantime he is a visitor and he absolutely CANNOT work and he must keep his visitor status legal – which means renewing it every 6 months. This can only be done while he has a PR application in process.
