R: Should the rich be required to pay the same effective rate of taxation that working folks pay?
In other words, should all Americans share an equal burden (all taxes/fees as a percentage of income) when it comes to funding our civil society and civic infrastructures?
If not, would someone please explain why working folks have to shoulder a burden that is over twice the burden that the rich carry (@ 37% effective taxation vs. @ 16.7% effective taxation)?

Not all rich people make money off of capital gians so your claims are bogus and exagerated.
Why dont you tell people what the tax rate is for someone making a million a year in income?
EDIT: Working folk dont pay anywhere near a 37% tax rate.
Answer by Curtis 1911Yes,,,, All Americans should pay an equal percentage of taxes.
What is effective taxation? Sounds like liberal math to me.
This is actual taxiation.
The top 5% of wage earners pay 59% ot the total income tax burden. The bottom 50% of wage earners pay only 3% of the total income tax burden, so it is very easy for them to vote to raise taxes on others.
Democracy is lost when one group of people can vote to raise taxes on another group of people.
Plus don’t forget the AMT Alternative Minimum Tax for the rich that have more deductions then tax, they must still pay the AMT.
It is time to raise taxes on the poor.

I agree with you 100%. Personally I think it’s ridiculous that a working person who makes less than 90,000 per year has to pay FICA on the full amount of their income but a wealthier person only pays on their first $ 90,000 of income. I’d like to see FICA applied to all earned income and I’d like to see capital gains taxes increased to 20%.Answer by Jeff Lewbowski
Yes. The rich should pay at least the same percentage as working people but you are trying to back door us with a flat tax scheme.
At the very least, close the tax loopholes for the rich and have them pay the same as most of us.
Better still. Let’s go back to a real progressive tax that will get us out of the mess we created with the Reagan tax cuts.
Answer by mckenziecalhounThat, I believe, is called the Fair Tax system, and most of us seem to like the idea.
As a Democrat, I utterly agree.
