WTF: Should I take Honors English freshmen year?
I want to take classes that I’m interested in like Math, Science, Photo, Psychology, Business. on my schedule I have Honors Geometry, Biology and Photo. I signed up for Honors English but I feel like it isn’t worth it because it doesn’t coincide with any of the subjects or interest of mine. the summer homework was not very complex, and the main reason why I wanted to take it was to improve my writing skills. In regular English we will still be doing writing so either way i can achieve my goal in English. I don’t see why i should take it if I feel like I’m not going to benefit anything from it, because the assignment over summer weren’t as challenging as I thought they would be and were pretty simple and straight forward. Either way I will still get the same knowledge, but the only major difference would be the workload. It isnt very overwhelming, but I don’t see why I should take the Honors English class if I feel like I can still learn the same material and feel like I’m not being challenged. The regular English class would be practically the same for me but with less of a workload. Without it, I could focus more on my interest and the classes I am most intrigued by. It is those classes that will help me learn about the type of careers I’m interested in and English can’t really teach me anything about Math, Science etc… Other than the basic communication skills I will use in my everyday life, it won’t help me accomplish my top goal, which is to discover exactly which of my interest is my true calling.
i honestly dont care if it looks better. and it wont be as helpful in college if you a math, or science major. yes I will need to write papers no matter what , I never said I’m trying to get out of it for that reason. but its not a challenge and isn’t worth it to me. I plan on taking Honors Geometry, Biology, and Photo this year, Honors Algebra 2, AP Chemistry, and Photo 2 next year, Junior year I plan on taking Math Analysis, AP Biology, and Business Management and Psychology. and Senior year i plan to take AP Calculus, Marine Science, and Financial Management. by Senior year I hope the classes I took previously will help me determine what will be the best major/career to pursue.
plus i plan on going to a CSU so it won’t need an impressive admission essay. CSU is cheaper and is my best shot.

You do not have to take all honors classes because you are smart or a good student. In fact, it seems you are thinking strategically which will work to your advantage in the long run. You do not state that you love to read or write, so I think the standard level will be fine.Answer by Soup™
I didn’t read that enormous paragraph you just wrote… but I would think about it. If you think you can handle it then go for it. I took it freshman year and got so overwhelmed that I just stopped doing some of my homework… which resulted in a C- the first semester and a C+ the second semester.Answer by Elena R
I think you should take Honors English. It will help prepare you better for college. Even if you are really interested in the maths and sciences, you will have to write papers in college. Plus you usually are expose to more literature which will help you again in college and be a more well rounded person. I also think it would be easier to change your mind after you start and switch to regular English than the other way around. I know that in my high school the quality of papers and types literature we were reading were more on target with college the non Honors class. It will also look better to the colleges that you apply to that you challenge yourself in all areas, just not the ones you like. I will tell you that I did not take honors in 9th grade, not by choice. I did take it for the rest of my high school years. I had some catching up to do in 10th grade.
