horsegalbe45: Shoes……….?
Are there any horses that would be good for begginer-intermiediate riders that don’t need shoes as a general rule? I was just wondering. You know a way to cut costs here or there! =]

No horse REALLy needs shoes. for certain disciplines people use them for traciton but if the hooves are well maintained then no you don’t need shoes. it dosn’t matter wha ttype of rider you are.
Cutting corners with horses is NEVER a good idea, you or the horse loses in the long run.
If you’re looking for your first horse, look for something OVER 15 with good feet. If you don’t live in the suburbs or in a BIG city, then you don’t have to worry about much black top and if the horse you select has good feet, (Black and BIG) then chances are you won’t have to keep him/her shod.
Don’t forget to get a PRE PURCHASE vet exam on the animal just to make sure that you won’t be spending the money you’ve saved on shoes on your horse for vet bills.
You want your vet to check the horse’s age, blood work, general soundness. Once the horse clears all that, then once you purchase the horse, you need the vet back out there to give him/her their shots
Best of luck!
Answer by ♥Arabian Filly♥Well it totally depends on the horse. Most Hunter/Jumper (what i do) do wear shoes for landing purposes. Horses hoofs arelike finger nails they all grow at different speeds. If you are getting a horse I reccomend just to plan on getting the front feet with shoes. It is best. But this also depends on what the horse has had previously!
Hope i helped!!
This is good info i promise!!
GOOD LUCK!

the only time you need shoes on a horse is if you ride on the road or on rough surfaces alot you dont need shoe’s i like my horse to be without shoe’sAnswer by liviatasia
Too many people base their horse’s needs on what the person wants, not what the horse needs. There are some horses that need shoes and there are some horses that don’t need them.
It should always be based on the horse and a good farrier will let you know.
My draft horse goes without shoes but he’s got really great hooves. There’s a horse where I board that has horrible hooves and no way could go without shoes.
So it really just depends on the horse! Have fun looking for a horse!
