: How to grow mung bean seeds in a pot?
OH MY GOD i just got an assignment that tells me i have to grow a plant. My teacher just gave me seeds that are called mung bean seeds ? anyway, the thing is i don’t know how to grow them. I need to know how deep do we plant the seeds, how much water do we apply to the plant, and how many times do we water it. Honestly i really don’t know what i’m going to do. I’ve tried researching it on google but it’s only telling me “how to sprout mung bean seeds” if i don’t get good grades my parents will probably kill me 🙁 i really need help anyone ? thanks 🙂

Soak the beans in water for 3 hours or so. Poke them into the soil in your pot. Add some water to the pot, maybe a tablespoon twice a day. In a few days you will have sprouts.
If you go to a Chinese restaurant the sprouts they serve are usually mung beans sprouts and they grow them right there in the kitchen. All they do is put the beans in a jar and rinse them twice a day for 3 or 4 days.
Here is an outfit that offers a simple home sprouting unit that is very convenient to use, if you happen to want to grow a bit of your own food. They also offer seeds mixed for salads, and those are quite nice.
Answer by daylilySmartAZ had the second and third paragraphs right, but I think you’re asking how to grow mung beans in a pot of soil. You don’t want to add water by the spoonful.
Soak them before planting or not, it doesn’t really matter, but once they’re soaked, don’t let them dry out. Plant them 1 1/2-2″ apart and 1/2″ deep in any all-purpose potting soil in a pot with a drainage hole. Water with tepid water until the water runs out the bottom of the pot. Don’t let the pot sit in a saucer of water–you want good drainage. Keep the soil moist (not soggy) until the bean plants break the surface of the soil (You’ll only need to check the soil once a day), then gradually decrease the amount of water. By the time the plants have two sets of leaves (one set of seed leaves, or cotyledons, and one set of true leaves) you should be letting the top of the soil dry out between waterings.
After the seedlings emerge, give them all the light you can. If you need more information, Google “how to grow beans” or “how to plant beans” instead of mung beans (most mung beans are used for sprouts rather than growing plants, and if I’m reading your question correctly, you want to grow plants). Good luck!
