The Taliban took over control of the government, and they are Muslim terrorists. They hate and want to kill all non muslims.
I didn’t know it was ruined. I know its now on edge since obama has made it clear that the US will pull out and leave Afghanistan to the mercy of the Taliban who will punish the for siding with the US. Afghanistan was a training ground for terrorist….that is why US, GB, Canada, Poland, and many many other countries are there. They are trying to rid the country of the terrorist stronghold.Answer by prothopectore

Reagan abandoned Afghanistan and the mujadeen (who became the Taliban) after their war with the USSR. We did however leave behind a broken country AND the weapons we gave them. Afghans angry at this became easy targets for Taliban recruitment…the rest is history.Answer by Tom B
9-11, The Taliban, Terrorist training camps, When they started shooting at us with weapons and ammo that we gave them to defend themselves against the Soviets, The huge amounts of Opium and Heroin that they send to the US to fund terrorism. Take your pick.
Actually we were never “good” friends. Our relationship was always more symbiotic, or “the enemy of my enemy is my friend” so to speak. They needed our weapons to fight the Soviet invasion. And as long as we supplied them they kept the Soviets bogged down in an un-winnable war. This helped to bring down the Soviets because they could not fight the Afghan Rebels, compete with the West for military superiority and support their domestic infrastructure at the same time. This led to the people rising up and tossing communism out the window and pretty much ending the Cold War.
I guess somebody in Washington should have paid more attention, now it is us who is bogged down fighting against the same people (except now we call them “religious extremists and jihadists” instead of “freedom fighters”) who are now sporting shiney new Soviet era surplus weapons…Answer by IceT

The fact is that Afghanistan was never a friend of the United States. They would accept money and material support but they never claimed to be a friend. In fact most of the support that came from the United States and other countries to help them fight off the Soviets was funneled through Pakistan. Many of the fighters had no idea that the equipment they were using was coming from somewhere other than Pakistan. Even the stinger missiles that were sent had all their marking replaced with Arabic scrpt.Answer by TheGrandOnion
The development of fundamentalist Islam back in the 1940s. After Israel managed to hand a larger Allied Arab army its collective rear shortly after Israel’s founding, some Islamic thinkers began to philosophize why Allah wouldn’t have sided with them in the war?
Some reached the decision that it was because Arab countries had become too secularlized & Westernized, getting as far from religion as possible. So a philosophical & social movement was begun in the Islamic world which would combat secularization & its advocates, while bringing Muslims ‘back home’ to Islam.
And which country stood, worldwide, as the most secular? The U.S.
Thus, regardless of what generous, friendly actions the US took, these fundamentalists thought it irrelevant because the US was still secular & non-Islamic. Basically everything their version of Islam stood against.
So while the US was secretly aiding the Mujahadeen during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the rebels took the aid but didn’t set aside the fact that the US was _still_ the true enemy.Answer by John
There is no war between the United States and Afghanistan! Afghanistan did not attack the United States on 9/11. Al-Qaeda did! Gosh ignorance is the cause of these liberal nut jobs. They don’t even have any clue what the war on terror is about and they’re against it!
