Barry A: Is the Republican party controlled by those who would still own slaves if Lincoln hadn’t stopped them?
White males in the South. Never a stronghold of morality now, was it? Slaves were needed to “keep up productivity,” i.e. money was their god. Has anything changed?

The politics of the Democrats and Republicans flipped since then.
You are asking if *today’s* Republicans are like that. The fact that Lincoln’s Republican party freed the slaves has nothing to do with today’s Republicans.
I suspect the truth is that slavery would have eventually gone away by now even if we hadn’t fought the Civil War.
But if slavery hadn’t gone away, it would seem that today’s slave owners would be Republicans. However, if slavery hadn’t gone away, we might have different major parties.
Opinions about the flip:

Please read your history the Republican party fought for equal rights,
“The Republican Party was born in the early 1850’s by anti-slavery activists and individuals who believed that government should grant western lands to settlers free of charge. The first informal meeting of the party took place in Ripon, Wisconsin, a small town northwest of Milwaukee. The first official Republican meeting took place on July 6th, 1854 in Jackson, Michigan. The name “Republican” was chosen because it alluded to equality and reminded individuals of Thomas Jefferson’s Democratic-Republican Party. At the Jackson convention, the new party adopted a platform and nominated candidates for office in Michigan.”
“In 1856, the Republicans became a national party when John C. Fremont was nominated for President under the slogan: “Free soil, free labor, free speech, free men, Fremont.” Even though they were considered a “third party” because the Democrats and Whigs represented the two-party system at the time, Fremont received 33% of the vote. Four years later, Abraham Lincoln became the first Republican to win the White House. ”

You do realize that Lincoln was a Republican, right? The pro-slavery party were the Democrats, the south didn’t go Republican until the 1960s when Lyndon Johnson backed civil rights legislation with his “Great Society”.
You should also recall that to Lincoln slavery was a secondary issue, his primary concern was to preserve the Union, and slavery was just another problem that had to be addressed in pursuance of that.Answer by Megs
HAHAHA. Someone didn’t read their history before posting a question. the Republican party was FOUNDED on an anti-slavery platform. The Republican party initially came into existence as a group of politicians who were AGAINST slavery, while the Democratic party was FOR slavery.
You must feel very silly right now.

Answer by Are you ready?Yes, things have indeed changed. Except for your knowledge, that is. It was not the Republicans that owned slaves it was the DEMOCRATS! And they still work against the black race. The only ‘interests’ they have at heart are their own. I see more racism in the Democratic party and more black on black racism then I have ever even heard of in the Republican party. If you do not know this for truth, then you are blinder then a bat and as dumb down as dirt. Not that it is your fault, the public school system wants you educated just enough so that you can cast your vote and not one iota more.
