aeckburg87: Picky eater couple (adults) want somewhat of a healthier lifestyle?
I am 24 years old, my fiance is 25. we are getting married in May, and both know we dont eat healthy at all. but our problem (why we make such a good pair) is we are both VERY picky.
I have tried eating healthier but honestly really really dont like the taste of alot of things.
we are both meat and potato fans. almost any kind of meat is a yes, (nothing sea food related) for veggies, we both like corn and carrots, i like broccoli if its hot and cauliflower if its cold. but thats about it. we eat out to much and when i cook its usually the same 5 things. i know most of you eaters out there are probably thinking “get over it” or “grow up” honestly im trying, but you know its hard to just change habit like a snap of the finger. i look up picky eater recipes and find “kids recipes” or stuff that i still think looks disgusting. i guess im just looking for new recipes i can do, maybe even a little more healthy. but seriously we are both very picky
no tomatoes for sure. i cant eat spicy foods but he can. neither of us will touch any sea food whether it be tuna, fish sticks, or fancy fish stuff. i could list a bunch of things i hate but the list might be to long. now with not tooooo much hate on us, any suggestions? or websites you know of that would be good for picky eater recipes or recipes that arent to fancy? did i mention…. he doesnt eat pasta, or cheese…. geeez i know i know. i would like him to get over it as much as i want to get over it. but baby steps…. maybe add a little healthy here and there and soon i will maybe be able to start enjoying it more

You could make tacos, they are somewhat healthy.Shepards pie is basically meat and gravy, you can add corn and diced carrots to the meat mixture while cooking it.Top the mixture with mash potatoes in a square pan and drizzle with a little butter and bake 375* for till bubbly and slight brown on top…just a few suggestions.
Aeckburg, no I am not going to be nasty, I am blaming both your parents for this, for letting you get away with blue murder in your more important growing years.
Now you two are going to get married, and are going to be great examples to any children you may have.
The best advice I can give you, is you both should go to the hospital, and make an appointment with a nutritionist, and nut out a healthy eating plan. Those foods your picky about, introduce one a week, take it slow at first, you will find you have been picky all these years for nothing.
You are both still young, change your habits now before you get to my age, you will regret it if you leave it to long.
Answer by CrustyCurmudgeonMaybe you could benefit from learning new cooking techniques. Check out recipes for roasting veggies instead of boiling them to death in water (asparagus lightly coated with olive oil and roasted at 425º for 10 – 12 minutes is a whole different experience). Cucumber and onion, sliced thin and marinated in apple cider vinegar and sugar/splenda (equal parts) is a delightful salad. Check out a recipe for wilted spinach salad, or dress some mixed greens with wine vinegar, olive oil and a sweetening agent (with salt and fresh ground pepper).
Blanched broccoli and cauliflower with a curried mayonnaise is a great appetizer.
Why not challenge yourself to prepare dinners for a week that have a meat, a starch and a green veggie ? You will probably find stuff you don’t like (brussel sprouts are really only edible with a good sweet-sour sauce) but the chances are you’ll find half a dozen green things you like.
Good luck.
