Barber: Parents: Do you like to have your family’s hair cut at home? How much would you like to pay for it?
I am a barber with 2 years of experience. I am currently working for a salon, and I am planning to do a side job by cutting people’s hairs at their homes. This will allow family members to have their hair cuts at the same time without the hassle of going to a salon.
Parents:
Will you like this service? My salon is currently charging $ 20 for a hair cut. How much more are you willing to pay for my on-site service, considering I will need to pay my own gas, longer working hours (extra driving time), and my own premise insurance in order to provide the convenience.
I appreciate your feedback!

being a (proud) Army wife and stay at home mom, not to mention without a means of transportation during the day, I’d say what you have is a golden idea. I have gone years without a haircut, simply because I cant get out by myself.
if i could call a stylist and have them come to my house, i would gladly pay a premium for the service. My only problem with your suggestion is the price you are considering. Keep in mind, the salon includes supplies, rent, salary for stylists, taxes, and management costs in their base price. These are overhead costs you will not have with your side job. I understand the need to cover your travel and time expenses, and then the premium for convenience, though.
so lets say you get 10 dollars an hour for your expertise. Consider that it takes 4 hours of your time to drive to a house, cut 3 heads of hair, and drive back. Doesnt, say 40 plus tip sound at least reasonable? Maybe not, depending on where you live. Consider the average cost of a regular (not discount, and not premium) haircut, and tack on about 5 dollars, but give a discount for say more than 3 heads in a sitting.
Remember, because of the convenience, most will tip higher than normal, and after gas, everything is profit for you, unless you plan to get a tax ID number for your business.
side bar: Are you going to bring like a tarp, or clean the hair up yourself?
