My house smells like dog pee, what can I do to get rid of the smell?

Anonymous: My house smells like dog pee, what can I do to get rid of the smell?
I have a 4 month old puppy that never took on house training too well and he pees in the house a lot on the carpet, my whole house stinks with the smell. How do I get rid of this smell. It’s getting to where I don’t even want to be in my living room because it stinks so bad.
And just so everyone knows, I’m not lazy at training him, I go to college full time and work full time.

Try febreeze, you can get it at your local store. My aunt and uncle had this problem, and eventually they had to get new carpet because it was so bad..

Take some very strong vinegar and pour it on the stain spots. Vinegar is very acidic and should break down all those scent causing bacteria.

Fabreeze it always works!

The powder that you sprinkle on the sarpet and then vaccuum up works great. I had this same problem and was using fabreeze, but the pee smell would come back within a few hours. It took several days for the pay smell to come back with the powder.

Rent a steam cleaner – use the oxi clean version of rug shampoo. You can also try spreading dry baking soda on the carpet – leave it for about two or three hours – then vacuum it up. Clove oil diluted with water will deter your puppy from peeing there again. Just mix one part clove oil with twenty parts water – then put it in a spray bottle and lightly mist the areas where your puppy likes to pee. You can buy clove oil in health food stores.

there is this febreze thing they invented, its extremly powerful, u can set it 1 spray like each 18, 24 36 min. 1 Spray will literaly make your breath smell good for a week if u put it in your mouth

nature’s miracle is an amazing product. While febreeze only covers up the odor, this was created by a scientist that includes enzymes that breaks down the urine so the smell goes away. If you don’t get rid of all of the smell the dog will keep smelling it and continue thinking peeing in the house is fine. I would consult a trainer to help you with the potty training, other wise it will continue forever.

All the above, and HOUSETRAIN your dog. He’s only FOUR months old… how can house training have failed???!!!! Don’t be so lazy!

Answer by Tangarin
Rub it’s nose in it’s own pee and it will learn not to do it agin, it’s not crul at all cos your not being agressive and hitting it, don’t hit it of course but if you gently put it’s nose in it’s own wee it won’t do it, and another thing put the dog in the laundry where there are tiles and it’s easier to clean , take it to puppy school and they can help you to train it.

You need to get odo ban. I get it from sam’s club and it is amazing stuff. I’ve heard nature’s miracle works too, but haven’t tried it. Think you can get it at petsmart. Febreze, oust, all those other things will not eliminate the odor, just cover it up.

EDIT: I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH…PLEASE DON’T SHOVE YOUR DOG’S FACE IN HIS ON EXCREMENT!!!

well you will probably have to keep the dog out of the parlor, if washing the rug with carpet cleaner doesn’t work you might have to tear up the rug, and either get a new one or choose not to have a rug in your parlor, try taking the dog out more often especially after he/she eats or wakes up from it’s naps. You might want to get a dog crate (cage) to put the puppy in with newspapers or puppy pads. Or just get rid of the dog. But I know that isn’t a choice to do so, cuz you love this dog.Try cleaning the house with bleach and hot water. That kills any smell that you should have in your house, just make sure you open a window tocirculate the air, so you don’t get dizzy from the fumes.

Go to the pet store and look for a product called “Simple Solution”. I have used this when my pets were first being trained and also when they get sick. You can use it in the washing machine and also in a carpet machine as well as right out of the bottle. It can be kind of expensive for a student (like $ 17/gallon) but a little goes a long way. It even works with cat urine which is more stubborn then dog urine. I have always been very happy with it.

put your puppy out of the house frequently, when it is playing, after drinking or eating it always need to go out, and clean your carpet. you’ll find out more on this web page.

Answer by John M
A product that I used to use when I had cats was called “Anti-Icky Poo”. It claims to be able to remove the smell of dead bodies. I’ve never had to use it for my dog, but it did work for cat pee, which I’ve found smells worse than dog pee.
I’ll go along with the rest of the crowd also and say you should get your carpet professionally steam-cleaned.

Answer by Credic J
You need to use a black light to hunt down the urine (and perhaps other things causing the smell) This product in this article comes with one… it’s pretty good
