I am not sure how to start the process of finding an apartment and renting one. I guess I just need some advice on what to do. I only have a job on campus that pays $ 10/hr with 13hr/wk. it is not much, but please I need some advice on what to do next??? thank you!

First off, you need to make more money. $ 130 a week is chump change!
You won’t be able to get an apartment with what you make alone. Your boyfriend is going to need to find work and prove a steady income. Some apartments do credit checks, and may require a cosigner if either of you has bad credit or no credit. You can call complexes and ask if they have any available apartments and what the cost is, if you know of some that you’re interested in. If you don’t know of any, start looking in the Sunday paper and driving around town to find areas that interest you. When you are ready to rent, make sure that you write out a budget and that you can afford it (because if you break the lease and move out because you can’t afford it, you’re still responsible for the remainder of the lease). Make sure that both of your names go on the lease as well.Answer by *Cara*
I hope your boyfriend has an income. On yours alone you wouldn’t be able to afford an apartment. Start by looking in the newspaper or apartment rental sites like forrent.com. Then call and talk to the manager. It’s pretty easy.Answer by CAtransplant
Your college probably has a rental referral service. Otherwise look in the newspaper, at www.rent.com or just drive around and find an apartment complex you want to live in.
With what you probably bring home every month, I hope your boyfriend will have a job, because you won’t be able to afford anything.
You will need to come up with first month’s rent and a security deposit.
And the property manager will do a credit check, and employment verification.
You should sit down and make a budget for the two of you.
What about furniture, kitchen supplies, monthly amount for utilities, groceries, transportation, etc.?
Think this through before you get into some financial trouble.Answer by Shell the Sour
Most places require your income be at least double if not triple what your rent is. Your probably going to need a co-signer.Answer by nathaliekiki
hello,if you, your boyfriend wants to move to florida, where?landlord will require you,or one of ya to make 3 times the rentAnswer by Doctor Deth
he would be an idiot to move there without a job – no one will rent to you unless at least one of you is working full time and making at least 3 -4 times the monthly rent each month – plus you would need 2-3 month s worth of rent IN CASH UP FRONT just to sign the leaseAnswer by msvamp101
I am an apartment manager. Most places require that your income is 3-4 times the rent per month and many places will require you to qualify separately since you aren’t married. It’s a touchy subject, but a lot of places want to make sure if one person leaves the other can pay. With your amount of income, I would suggest looking for a based on income apartment. In alabama, your rent is 30% of tour gross income, and $ 0 if you are unemployed.
Call your local Housing Authority, they will have a list of based on income apartments.
