A Wooden Pole is 450mm long and a 200mm length is cut from it, Both of these Measurements are correct to the nearest mm. What can you say about the length of the remaining section of the pole?

Given that the wooden pole is 450mm to the nearest mm, the minimum and maximum measurements respectively would be:-
449.5 to 450.4999…. mm (just written as 450.5mm)
The length of wood removed is 200mm to the nearest mm. Similarly min & max values would be:-
199.5 to 200.5 mm.
Well, what can we say about the remaining section of pole?
The maximum remaining pole length can only be: the maximum possible orginal length MINUS the minimum possible removed length.
So: 450.5 MINUS 199.5 gives 251.0 (maximum remaining length)
and for minimum remaining length: equals the shortest original length MINUS the maximum removed length.
449.5 – 200.5 giving 249.0
We can say that the remaining length lies between 249.0 and 251.0 mm
