Specifically, websites that would list when they’re coming. My experience has been that the people answering phones at hotels don’t know about these things.

Are you talking about companies that rent a big room in a hotel and conduct sales over a couple of days? If so, the hotel has a person in charge of renting those rooms. That person’s title is probably going to be something like “events manager” or “conference manager.”

When you call and ask the hotel, I’m not surprised that the desk clerk doesn’t have the information, but if you ask whether they have a conference manager, the desk clerk can connect you with the right person.

As to advance notice on the Web, the hotel would not arrange that sort of advertising. It would be up to the promoter to decide whether they are going to use Web-based ads, TV ads, billboards, or whatever. If you happen to know the name of any company that comes to the area for sales like these, you can try a Google or Yahoo search. They might have a Web page to tell when they will be in particular cities. But without a name for the company or the promoter, I don’t think there is a way to get advance notice from the Web. So, start with the event or conference manager with the hotel. Good luck!!
