jennh: Are there any hotels outside NYC that have a free shuttle to the city?
We are planning a weekend trip to NYC and I see that there is a huge price difference in staying in the city and out of the city (duh!). Do any of the hotels near the airports offer a free shuttle into the city or do we have to take a cab? I need recommendations on where to stay. We may be coming up via Amtrack, but we haven’t decided yet.

check in the Poconos now that they have casinos they might offer service
If you’re coming via Amtrak, I’d suggest booking at the Hilton in Woodbridge, NJ. The Hilton is in easy walking distance of the Amtrak Metropark train station. From there, you can commute into the city by New Jersey Transit trains that run regularly through the day and evening. The Hilton’s weekend rates are quite good, particularly in comparison with hotels in Manhattan.
I’ve done this myself and it worked out quite well. It also works well if you’re driving, as the hotel is just off Exit 131A of the Garden State, and has free parking.
Answer by NYmortgagemanYou can stay in Downtown Jersey City (1 subway stop from manhattan aka 5-7 minutes). the PATH subways run 24/7 and only cost 1.50 (not sure if it went up due to the hike). I stayed at doubletree in a fancy suite and it only cost me $ 180. It is right outside of the Newport Mall, and a 30 second walk to the NY subway:

Answer by Native New YorkerMy friend, depending on you budget, may I recommned the link below. Many of the hotels list here are near the PATH Train, which is a commuter rail system that operates between New York City and Hoboke, Jersey City and Newark, NJ.
