I am new to LinkedIn. I see that when there is a second connection the first big window is to write I think to the target and the other one below in the smaller window is to write to the contact. What would an example be of what you would write and how does the process work? Thank you!

If you are trying to communicate to a “2nd” connection, then your message to your connection is like an appeal letter. Tell them why you are looking to get introduced to their connection. What you write is dependent on your actual relationship with them.

The second connection that you are trying to connect with is an appeal letter to explain why you want to communicate with them. It needs to be compelling, and something that you would be comfortable sending to your connections should someone ask for reciprocity.

When you send this request off, your main connection will see both notes, and then decide whether or not they are willing to forward it. If they do, the 2nd connection will only see the message you designated for them. They can then choose to accept or deny the request.
