miraclemaxlovesme: Islam ???
If anyone out there is a Muslim, could they please let me know what they think about this statement and why.
“It is said that Islam is not only a religion, but a way of life”
This is for a religion assignment at school, and I would really appreciate some thoughts from those involved and primary sources- as in ‘straight’ from the horses mouth’
I would also appreciate the opinions of those not directly associated with the topic.
Thanks heaps,
I don’t mean from the point of view of those high up, but from the point of view of those living it.
Is it just what you believe, or do the Five Pillars impact on your daily life that you base what you do on them, rather than basing them on what you do?

Every single idiotic religion claims it’s not a “religion” but a way of life.
Islam is indeed a way of life, rather the correct way of life because this way of life has been taught by God itself to prophet Mohammad and the instructions have been preserved in the Holy Koran for the benefit of mankind. If the instructions contained in the Holy Koran are followed by human beings in letter and spirit, a paradise can be established here on earth through the Islamic way of Life.Answer by Faisal F
Yes word DEEN is used with word Islam. Islam (peace) is religion (faith) and also Deen (system or way of life). Islam is a complete way of life that governs all facets of life: moral, spiritual, social, political, economical, intellectual, etc.
Definition of the Word Deen & the Word Islam
Edit: ——————-
The five pillars are practices must be undertaken with the best of effort in order to be considered a true Muslim:
A) Shahadah – declaration of faith in the oneness of God and that Muhammad is the last prophet of God.
B) Formal prayer five times a day.
C) Fasting during the daylight hours in the month of Ramadan.
D) Poor-due “tax” – 2.5%of one’s savings given to the needy at the end of each year.
E) Pilgrimage to Mecca at least once, if physically and financially able.

Every religion is ideally a way of life, but that is not how every member of a religion looks at it.
The pope says he is the authority on Catholicism; many US catholics disagree.
Plenty of Hijabi muslim women sleep around (we call them hijabi teases). Plenty of bearded Muslim men drink. They may still pray. The point is just b/c some ppl say in theory that islam should encompass your life, doesnt mean that they do it in practice.
mmmkkaay?
Answer by Loza Li think islam beside being a faith is a way of life because it organizes also ur relation with everyone and everything u see and meet in life, it organizes ur attitude towards ur neighbours, ur freinds ur family , everyone it also gives u clues of who to choose as a freind and who to choose as a spouse and why, , it regulates ur attitude towards things like water and plants and also how to treat animals and everything in ur daily life u will find a model of how to deal with it in islam so it is not just a faith at heart and five prayers not related to ur life but it is a way of life of how to live happily and enjoying everything at the same time obeying ur godAnswer by truthhelper
Islam is from Allah, The Creator and Sustainer of all that exists. As such, it is for Him Alone to command and direct His creation and He Alone is responsible for what He will accept and what He will not accept. It is also for Him Alone to decree what is good and what is bad and He must be the One to show the right path in all things.
Everything in the life of the creations of Allah, especially for those who have choices to make (us), must be dictated and clarified by the One who Created everything in the fist place. We understand from this that Islam must be a complete and total way of living, explaining everything in the life from beginning to end and from birth until death.
Islam is careful to remind us that it not a religion to be paid mere lip service; rather it is an all-encompassing way of life that must be practiced continuously for it to be Islam.
There are other injunctions and commandments which concern virtually all facets of one’s personal, family and civic life. These include such matters as diet, clothing, personal hygiene, interpersonal relations, business ethics, responsibilities towards parents, spouse and children, marriage, divorce and inheritance, civil and criminal law, fighting in defense of Islam, relations with non-Muslims, and so much more.
In conclusion, we are forced to realize that ISLAM is a complete way of life for the human being. Everything is covered in Islam from birth to death to live in the complete submission to the Will of the One Who Created man in the first place
Answer by EveLeading a righteous life is a main commandment to be a true Muslim. Quran focuses on how to lead this righteous life; how to live your life, how to treat your parents, family, friends, neighbors and even enemies, and how to deal with every single matter in life. Quran does not leave anything without giving a code of ethics for it. There is a moral system for the righteous life life the Muslim should lead. That’s why we say Islam is a way of life.

Put simply without a lot of exaduration: Islam is a religion and has certain rules and regulations like every other religion, however, these other religions do not enforce their rules and regulations on a daily, life-long basis as Islam does. Say for example with Christianity, there are a lot of similarities tying it with Islam, however, if one of Christianity’s rules are abstaining from sex before marriage not many Christians will actually choose to follow this as it does not suit their day-to-day lives in Western Society, however, for Muslims, they shape their lives according to Islam, so if it is abstaining from sex before marriage, they will prevent this from happining in their lives by wearing the veil (if female), not speaking to the opposite sex where possible, etc.Answer by safdar s

peace miraclemaxlovesme,
islam is described as a way of life (in arabic ‘deen’) because it encompasses all aspects of life. islam literally means ‘submission’. a muslim is a person who submits his will to god.
in the quran god says:
(051:056)
I created the jinn and humankind only that they might worship Me.
any act done in obedience to god’s will is considered an act of worship in islam. thus remembering god, prayer (salat), fasting, charity, pilgrimage, gaining beneficial knowledge, standing up for justice, raising a family, being kind to parents, kin, neighbors, the poor, orphan and needy, earning a halal (legal) living, etc. these are all acts of ‘worship’ IF they are committed with the express intent to gain the pleasure of allah.
like other religions islam commands its followers to believe and to do good. however, islam distinguishes itself by providing general and explicit guidelines to achieve these desirable goals, e.g.
-islam expounds on the proper relation between the creator and his creation. worship is not something done once a week or few times a day. it is the constant state of being humble and submissive in front of god at every single instant. describing people of understanding the quran says they are:
(003:191)
Men who celebrate the praises of Allah, standing, sitting, and lying down on their sides, and contemplate the (wonders of) creation in the heavens and the earth, (With the thought): “Our Lord! not for naught Hast Thou created (all) this! Glory to Thee! Give us salvation from the penalty of the Fire.
-spirtuality. islam comes from the same root word as peace (salam). thus peace of heart and mind is achieved through submission and reliance on god.
(013:028)
Verily in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest!
– family. islam elaborates on rights and obligations of the different members of the family parents, children, husband and wife, e.g.
(017:023)
Thy Lord hath decreed that ye worship none but Him, and that ye be kind to parents. Whether one or both of them attain old age in thy life, say not to them a word of contempt, nor repel them, but address them in terms of honour.
these laws ensure equity and harmony in the family. also, islam gives detailed laws regarding inheritance.
-society. islam strives to create a just and harmonious society where individuals are free to exercise their beliefs as long as they do not infringe upon and interfere with the rights of the society.
(010:099)
If it had been thy Lord’s will, they would all have believed,- all who are on earth! wilt thou then compel mankind, against their will, to believe!
-finance. charity is an act of worship and all believers are commanded to contribute towards charity. islam prohibits usury, exploitative interest.
(003:130)
O ye who believe! Devour not usury, doubled and multiplied; but fear Allah; that ye may (really) prosper.
-justice. one of the core aims of an islamic society is to achieve justice. god says:
(005:008)
O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do.
-gender relations. the relationship between the sexes is not one of competition but one of complementarity. both men and women are commanded to deal with modesty.
(009:071)
The Believers, men and women, are protectors one of another: they enjoin what is just, and forbid what is evil: they observe regular prayers, practise regular charity, and obey Allah and His Messenger. On them will Allah pour His mercy: for Allah is Exalted in power, Wise.
islam also provides guidelines on governance, war, environmental issues,… every aspect of life. and hence it is best thought of as a ‘way of life’.
hope that helps
Answer by OutlandishI am a Muslim, from Saudi Arabia.
The statement that Islam is not only a religion, but a way of life, is true.
In the Muslim life, the religion and the life activities do not separate.
There is instructions about everything we do in our life, even there is instructions to what to do and say while entering and going out from the bathroom.
but they are not hard things to do, totally the opposite.
We do them because we want to, no because we have to.
Islam is a really important religoin to know about .some people who don’t belive in this religion say any thing about us such as terrorists of any thing else . iam 15 yrs old and i came to America last year our holy book which is the koran explains the rights form the wrongs and tells us the sideeffects our propht is mohamad we also believe in jesus and we love him so much we have all the prophet’s stories in our holy book and tells you what might happen to you in hell if you don’t follow what was saying in the koran i really respect every ones religoin i don’t argue about people that say bad thing about our religoun becuase they don’t even have an idea what islam is about.Answer by gUyaneSe SuNsHiNE
islam is a way of life because islam defines everything we do. islam is basically not a religion but a culture.
islam tells us that we should dedicate our lives to worshipping Allah but not in the form of prayer alone. this doesnt mean that we pray whole day.Everything we do we do it in Allah’s name.islam sets boundaries for basically the things we do everyday like any other religion. you should thank god for your food before you eat and then thank him again after you eat. thank god for letting you wake up another day and thank him for giving you another day when u go to bed. its just basically the religion defining how we live
