Citiscloset: Is there a way to make Google Mail start-up rather than Microsoft outlook to send my e-mail letters?
Hello Yahoo Ask users,
When I click on a Craigslist e-mail address, Microsoft Outlook opens up and I can compose my e-mail. Rather than Microsoft outlook, can I use Google Mail instead? If so, how can I configure Google Mail to open up and be ready to compose a e-mail when I click on a e-mail link?
Thank you.

You have to configure your Google Mail account in Microsoft Outlook, so that when Microsoft Outlook opens it is actually using your Google Mail. In Outlook, go to Tools > Email Accounts > Add a new Email Account > POP3 > enter the following information in the set up wizard:
# Google GMail Settings
The Google GMail service offers email client access for retrieving and sending emails through your Gmail account. However, for security reasons, GMail uses POP3 over an SSL connection, so make sure your email client supports encrypted SSL connections.
Google Gmail Incoming Mail Server (POP3) – pop.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 995)
Outgoing Mail Server – use the SMTP mail server address provided by your local ISP or smtp.gmail.com (SSL enabled, port 465)
Answer by MSThis depends on your browser (IE, Firefox or ? ).
Case One: (Using Firefox)
Firefox 3 provides a very easy to associate the mailto: link with Google mail web-based interface, in fact, it’s a built-in integration.
You should first install Firefox version 3.0 or later.
Then continue as follow:
1. Go to Tools -> Options.
2. Click on Applications tab icon.
3. Locate and click to highlight mailto Content Type, and at the corresponding drop down box of Action, select Use Gmail.
4. Click OK.
After change, whenever a mailto: link is clicked, the email address will be sent to Gmail account Compose web interface, with recipient automatically set at the clicked e-mail address.
Case two: (In General)
If you are using IE or Firefox browsers, you can download Google toolbar :
for IE (https://www.google.com/toolbar/ie/index.html)
for Firefox (https://www.google.com/toolbar/ff/index.html)
When you install them on your browser,
Go to Gmail. There will be a dialog box saying “It looks like you’re using Gmail. Would you like to make it your default mail client?” (or something like that). Click yes.
Good Luck
