No. Read A Random Walk on Wall Street.
There are some theories that seem to have validity. One is that the stock market usually goes down at the end of trading on Friday or before a holiday, because traders don’t want to be holding positions over weekend. I’ve observed some validity to this.
the trouble with widely-held theories is that once everyone knows and uses them, they become invalid. Dogs of the Dow was one theory that used to work (buy the cheapest 10 Dow stocks at year-end, sell next Dec. and buy the now cheapest Dow stocks). It worked in the’90’s till lots of people started doing it, now it doesn’t work any more.
There is no easy way to predict stock movements. If you’re intrigued by these theories, do some research, then test them out on paper. But be aware that any theory that seems to work for a while may suddenly stop working for unknown reasons–in other words, it wasn’t really a valid theory, it was luck.
