Ronq: Is it possible to build a lake house by myself?
I have always wanted to own a house by the lake with beautiful natural views and sunset that is isolated and away from cities and poeple. Where is that best spot to own house surrounded by such environment and natural beauties. I want the lake by the house to be very large. So, it makes a perfect view to watch a sunset. Aside from all the legal aspect, how much would such project of building low budget and at the same time very luxurious and sophisticated cost me? Is it possible to build it with few friends who have basic architectural knowledge. House is to be 2 floor with huge living room an kitchen with windows facing west for the lake and sunset.
Thank you!

It’s possible if you’re qualified. But I would imagine that you will need help with certain things. You might want the electric service installation and plumbing done by a qualified professional, it may save you money in the long run.
If you’re into log cabin style homes, you could buy a kit. They offer some pretty spectacular homes these days. The following sites offer some nice choices;

You’re fist step would be to find the property where you want to set your home. Property on lakes tend to be priced very high depending on the location, especially in more populated areas. You may find more reasonably priced land in rural areas. If you can’t find affordable land near a lake or water source (unless you’re rich), you could always make a man made pond. Before you buy any land, make sure that zoning laws will permit you to build the type of house that you want.
It’s hard to give you cost estimates without knowing where you want to be located, such as which state. Building material and labor costs/prices fluctuate depending on the area your in.
If you’re looing for luxurious, you could spend anywhere from $ 200,000 and up. If you could settle for nice but simple, it’s possible that you could get by with spending anywhere from $ 60,000 and up
Many articles that deal with your question can be found in the magazine Mother Earth News. They have sample plans for energy and cost efficient cabins that many people could complete themselves.
