There are plenty of roadside motels/hotels. Unless you are stopping during a busy period, or in a particularly busy area you should be fine.
Also, most rest areas have books with coupons for the hotels in the area surrounding the rest stop. Make sure you stop at the welcome centers when you enter a new state and pick them up. They also have the phone numbers so you can call ahead and see how busy each area is and if a reservation might be needed for that particular spot.
Hope that helps 🙂

Yes it is. Many hotels will have vacancy and rely on random travelers. A cheaper way to go that will immerse you more into local culture would be couch surfing. Couch surfing through the site below is very safe and a lot of fun! Just make sure you read up on everything! Happy Travels!

I never reserved a room and I did the drive several times.
Large cities it maybe tricky, depending on time of year, location and hotel rating. For a simple overnight stay, don’t worry about reservations.

Yes. There are enough roadside motels. They may not be of the best quality though.
