badbasco423: Is a career in aviation a good career?
I have heard radio commercials saying that there is a need for helicopter pilots. I have worked around helicopter for several years (wildland firefighting) and have a basic understanding of them. I would like to know about the pros and cons of such a career.

Yes. We are always going to be flying unless we have another attack like 9/11
Depending on your interests, you can go a number of ways.
Pilots of almost every variety are often needed but because there are so many you need all your certifications and thousands of heavy time hours before they will look at you.
Certified mechanics can generally find good positions with airlines or in the general aviation fields. You need your Airframe and Powerplant certifications first.
Aviation avionics is probably the most sought after of all these days. Good avionics techs are hard to find and get higher salaries because of it. You need an aircraft avionics certification.
Almost all aviation careers are rewarding but require the possibility of moving often and being laid-off fairly often.
Answer by EfronsgurlWell how are people going to get from here and there without pilots? I think it is a very good career speciously a helicopter pilot because that is mainly how the fires in mountains are put out. they need to be there so the mountain/wild land does not burn down. so to answer your question, yes the occupation of aviation is important.Answer by thedavecorp
I’ll bet it’s amazing and fun.
Howver, if this is a long term career consider this – how many airline companies have gone into bankruptcy or out of business? I mean, JetBlue is still doing good, but none of their pilots have reached retirement age yet.
Answer by bullfroghelicopter flying is kind of expensive to learn. pursue it if you want to fly.
