Mysticism: If you are a good person, but do not believe in a certain philosophy of life, how can a loving God punish you?
It is the biggest problem I have with Christianity as a whole. I will never fool myself into adopting ANY philosophy as absolute truth, but I’m wondering why a loving God would torment his much less intelligent children in such a manner. If I were God, and if I judged, I would judge people according to their character not their beliefs. A God should love his children like a mother does, unconditionally. Christian dogma has created a condition for God’s love. This seems illogical, evil and confusing.

2. God provided a way of escape through Jesus Christ
B. If you reject the Grace of God through the gift Of Jesus Christ, you set your own course

Sounds a bit contradictory to me. Catholic priests who were pedophiles get to simply apologize and they get a free pass to heaven while perfectly nice charitable atheists get sent to hell. What kind of loving God would do that?Answer by Mr.Rubio
since you want to speak in terms of philosophy and logic
IF you believe that the Biblical God exists and what He says is true, then you acknowledge that he is omnipotent and omniscient. You also acknowledge that He is the sustainer of the universe.
Thus, logically speaking, one can only come to the conclusion that God is unjust if they knew how the earth was created and therefore know how the earth is governed. They also acknowledge that they can do a better job then God can and would therefore have to be equally omniscient and omnipotent (actually, you’d have to be more omniscient than God, but not even that makes sense [you can’t be more ALL-knowing])
You are neither of these things. You even call yourself less intelligent, so how could you presume to know about God’s justice?
The book of Job is the richest and most informational concerning the justice of God. The conclusion? We cannot know if God is just, we must have faith.
Answer by ministeringinloveThe condition is not for His love, but for your salvation. He has loved you from the beginning, but refusing His is a rejection of the love. The most important question is not what you asked, but what it means to be a good person. It is quite obvious from that concept that you truly to ascribe to a particular philosophy on life.Answer by CriminalMind91
“God is not religion, but a spiritual bond” – Immortal Technique.
The way i think about what Christianity says about God, is like what i think newspapers say about celebrities. If a celebritie says “I feel stuffed” then chances are a newspaper will publish a headline like “So&So has a weight problem!”. So, imagine if God did say – through a messenger or whatever – “follow my religion, be a good person and you’ll get into heaven”. Which could be follow my religion OR be a good person, and you’ll get into a heaven. Or follow my religion AND be a good person and you’ll get into heaven. Now, if YOU was a powerful man in a certain religion, and they say with great power comes great responsibilitie, would you not – at least one man in 2000 years of religion – be tempted to say “Join the religion for heaven” rather than give the choice of just being a good man. Now all it takes is ONE man to say that, then all those that follow after that man would be – unaware, without meaning to – a liar.
Personally, i don’t think you have to do anything to get into heaven – you’re either good or bad. If you do bad things, expect the wrath. If you do good things, not even God can tell you what you deserve and don’t.
Although, as for the “God should love his children like a mother does, unconditionally”. Think about it from God’s point of view – you gave your children a planet, the ability to love, free will, knowledge, an ability to adapt and survive, a way to reproduce that feels GREAT… yet some of your children rape their brothers and sisters. Some of them kill their brothers and sisters. Some of them even deny you are their father. After a few hundred years of being blamed for earthquakes and floods, but never thanked for healthy born babies, finding true love or a beautiful planet – i think everybody would get a bit cranky and change their preceptions on what qualifies you for eternal paradise.
But that’s just my opinion :).

I understand your case, You are sincere, yet not fully informed.
You said: “If you are a good person..” The Word of God said, there is no one good. also “All have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” Rom.3:23. You know that God kicked Adam and Eve from paradise because they sinnd. We can not convince God to accept sinners into His presence. He is so HOLLY HOLLY … even the sun is not pure in His sight.
He prepared salvation and cleanliness for all of us that cost Him the highest price. the shed blood of the Sinless Lamb of God. If I reject that and say to God, I am good, take me to your presence as I am. He will not listen to us.
Now rejecting eternal salvation is accepting eternal damnation.Answer by Kevin5972
The question is not so much about God, Have you heard the Gospel? it is just a question of have you rejected it or accepted it if you have heard it. God is Holy we are sinners (not Holy) so in order to dwell in his presence we must be holy. and in order to do that we must believe and trust in Jesus. he is the lamb of God sacrificed for the sins of the world. that doesn’t sound so hard does it? so why put your trust in yourself and your own understanding as to what is good and moral. Put your trust is Christ. its not a bunch of rules and garbage, the God that created the Heavens and the Earth just want you to know Him and Trust in Him. So do that and you wont have to worry about anything else. just trust in Him.
John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
1.Romans 10:9
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;
2.Romans 10:10
for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation
.
Now that’s not too much for a loving God to ask is it ? after all He gave is only Son for us. would you give up a son for anyone? especially for a bunch of people that don’t even believe you exist.
There are several problems with your argument. First truth has to be an absolute as does morality. The only other option is relativity, which leads to chaos. If all of society can decide for themselves what is true or moral, then who can decide what is right or wrong ?
Second you ask how can a loving God punish ? How can a loving parent punish ? It is the duties of a loving parent , a loving Father to discipline to ensure the growth and maturity of the child. This is also not found in a relative society, as each individual including children can decide what is true or moral.
The last fallacy you come to is that a mothers love is uncondtional. When if fact it has many conditions. If it were unconditional we would never see an abortion happen. We would never see mothers killing their children. We would never see mothers leaving or deserting their children because they hindered how they want to live.
Only by following the example of a loving and just God.can we hope to be what we should be.Answer by ~Amaya~
Exactly! You will not be punished for believing what you want to. It’s quite absurded really. I mean that is the whole point of having free will. I think it is ridiculous to follow a religion partly because of fear of being punished if you don’t. That means we will blindly do anything instead of making our own derision’s. You shouldn’t have to live in fear. Religion was created completely for the purpose of control, which has obviously worked. I would have thought by now, people would realize that. Think about the word god, and where does god live? If you really pondered hard about everything with religion, then you would think differently. I guess some people use it to explain where we came from, because it’s scary not knowing.
