Searching: How would White History Month differ from any other month in history class?
To those that think we need a White History month, how would this differ at all from the 90 percent or so of white people that make up the american history books?
Imagine this scene:
Teacher: Okay, class. For White History month, we will take some time out to study people we don’t normally cover in history lessons. This month, instead of studying George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, FDR and JFK, we’re going to be studying George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, FDR and JFK.

white people do make up the history books we read here in Alabama…. Where do you live?
everyday is white history day! that’s the only history we consistantly learn!
everything else, is taught strategically, so we forget or don’t take it seriously…
native american removal in 2nd grade??

I will use this everytime there is a question asked about why there isn’t a white history month.
Answer by RebeccaI think responses/observations like your’s are cop-outs in all honesty. Seriously, the white population is and has been the majority of the population of the U.S. (with the exception of Native Americans). It would make sense that white people would be mentioned far more in the history of the U.S.
Now I believe this is somewhat of a cop-out because I learned quite a bit of history of other races/ethnicities in high school. We covered Native American a lot, and black history was covered a a lot also, not really as much as Native American or white, but it was covered a lot. Middle Eastern and Asian were somewhat neglected, and these should definately be more included in history lessons, although the main part of history is U.S. in my schools.
In my opinion, I don’t believe their should be history months, in that one group is excluded in word, even if covered (as you say) one group is excluded because of race. Is that fair? It’s kind of reverse racism. I don’t believe there should be history months because the ones we actually recognize in school (primarily black and women’s history month) are covered well in most schools if you actually pay attention.
Sorry if it sounds a bit harse, but it is my opinion and you asked for it.
Answer by a personI love this!!! In most schools, you’d think Martin Luther King was the only black person that had anything important to say. You can’t suppress a whole race’s history and not expect them to do something about it! Most people that complain about black history month don’t change their lives a single bit during it…..soooo what’s the problem!?! Also, I think society likes to forget that blacks contributed A LOT to this nation.Answer by KayKay
People keep asking this and it’s annoying.
Why is it irritating that there is a Black history month? How does it affect you in a negative way? It’s an opportunity for you to learn something different.
When I hear people say this, the visual I get is this:
The rich kid who always had all the toys, gets mad when the poor kid gets a nice toy…..stomping his feet, red faced and screaming “No fair! I want another toy!”……..even though he has always had all the toys he wanted…..he can’t be happy that the poor kid finally gets something good…….
