sarcasm_rulez_all: How to keep house smelling clean with a small dog?
My husband and I are thinking of getting a small house dog. I’d love to have one, but there’s so many people I know that have dogs in the house and it smells disgusting! My in-laws have 3 wiener dogs and their house smells horrible.
I do not want to be like this! Please give me tips on keeping a fresh-smelling house even if there’s a little Shi Tzu living in the house!

Also clean with Lysol based cleaners and plug-ins are wonderful!
well its hard at first because the dog will not be potty trained. so i would by a shampoo rug cleaner. also be sure you keep the house clean and use fresh smelling cleaners. make sure you clean up any messes right away. and air out the house whenever possible. also frebreeze works well. be sure to clean the couches or where the dog sleeps. also plug ins work well (frebreeze is my favorite)Answer by Sunshine
I’m a big fan of vinegar. It absorbs a lot of odors, especially if they have an accident. Giving a dog regular baths makes a big difference in odor as well. A lot of that dog smell is unwashed dog, probably.Answer by mom of 3 and done!
D o your home work, there are some dogs that have NO doggie smell to them. When puppy training keep the pup in kitchen where it can not piddle on the rug, seems it never really cleans up good, once peed on. The pee can go right down into the floor boards. And don’t budge on this until the dogs tells you it has to go out.Answer by alaina
I have a yorkie and there is no dog smell in my house. Make sure you potty train correctly and just keep your house clean. Tell your in-laws to put dryer sheets in the vents. That helps.Answer by empty-nester 2002
The home of a well trained and well kept dog doesn’t smell. Aside from potty accidents, you need only wash his bedding weekly and keep him brushed between baths.
