Gabriel’s Mami: How to judge a Halloween costume contest?
My husband and I are hosting our first halloween Party and we have bought Ribbons for the winners of the Halloween Costume. We’re not too sure how to decide on who the winners will be. There are 5 categories(ribbons): Most Original, Sexiest, Funniest, Best Overall and Scariest. We made it mandatory for couples to come as couples so we will have 2 separate contests. ANy suggestions are appreciated!

Write out a voting ballet. Let everyone vote for each category. The majority of the votes win.
do a catwalk for each catogorie and on a piece off paper each you and your husband mark them out off creativety, uniqueness, add some others then overall score. Then you and your husband add scores together then voila! Get some micheal jackson or halloween themed music and just go with the flow.Answer by Sarah P
One Option:
When guests arrive in costume give them a sticker with a number and each person gets two blank pieces of paper. (Paper clipped together) Then when you are ready to hold the costume party have everyone put the number on their costume and tell guests they have two votes for the costume contest.
But they have to decide whether they want to vote for Most Original, Sexiest, Funniest, Best Overall and Scariest costumes but they can’t vote for themselves.
Give guests 10 – 15 minutes to check out costumes and then when guests have cast their vote they need to got the voting table and hand in their slips in one of the boxes.
You can check their numbers before they go in the box (so they don’t self vote) or you could write on the back of the slips of paper each couples numbers with an x through them so they don’t self vote or just trust that they won’t.
The person getting the most votes for each category wins.
Or Score each category and then tally the votes, highest score wins.
Categories could be:
a. Makeup & Hair (1 – 5 pts)
b. Costume Appearance (1 – 10 pts)
c. Use of Accessories (1 – 5 pts)
d. Footwear (1 – 5 pts)
e. Person is in Character at Party (1 – 5 pts.)
f. Costume link to party theme (1 – 5 pts) – if relevant
g. Creativity (ie store bought 1 or 2 points but more unique 3 or more pts.) (1 – 5 pts)
Score and determine the winner
