Jennifer: How to get started in erotic photography?
I want to get started in erotic photography and have no idea what the first step is.
Are there classes available specific to nude photography?
How do I build a portfolio?
What is the best way to get “exposure”?
How would I find models? What is the best way of compensation?

To get some decent exposure, join Flickr once you have pictures.
Start by taking pictures with your girlfriend/boyfriend or someone you’re close enough with to get a hang of it.
Read up online, on forums and look at pictures to see what sort of style you like.
Talk to photographers, e-mail them, etc.

Hello,
Interesting question.
There are a couple of ways to get into erotic photography.
Of course you will need models and there are hundreds of models just crying out for photos themselves.
The best way to get a portfolio together is to find models who will work what is known as TFP – that means Time for Prints.
You will supply the model with prints for THEIR portfolio in exchange for their modelling time.
You will have to work out the deal but usually its about a dozen prints from the shoot in a size about A3 but you will have to work that out.
Most models will work TFP at the start of their career.
It is IMPORTANT to build up trust with a model especially when doing erotic photography.
There are courses and even vacations on erotic photography. I went on one to Portugal and it was good fun – try to choose one where there are only a few photographers and 4 or more models.
Classes usually include demonstrations plus one to one shoots.
They do tend to be expensive though but are the easiest way to learn. Try ads in the back of photo magazines – there are usually dozens of offers either from studios (often offering evening classes) or vacations.
To find local models ask around or advertise on noticeboards in local theatres or art classes.
Most art classes have life models and they are used to being asked for photo shoots.
Locations are important – beaches ,waterfalls, streams and parks are good.
Have fun !
Keith
