I <3 Gus!!: How to convince my parents that animals are important too?
Me and my friends planned to have a Bottle Drive to get bottles and cans, exchange them for money, and donate the money to our local shelter, so I asked my parents if I could do it. (By the way, my parents think “Animals can’t think” so they don’t want anything to to with animals) They both said that I could not be involved in that or anything to help animals. I’m desperate!! PLEASE help me convince them that they are an important part of my life too!!
Thanks!

the thing about parents is, they have their own set of morals and values and there is almost nothing we can do to change that. Something they did when raising you MUST have sparked this love for animals (i assume dogs right?? ME TOO!) When it comes to this specific situation, I don’t really see a problem. You can have a can drive and donate the money all by yourself, you don’t need their help. Maybe once they see how devoted you are (mature…) they will have more respect for your individuality.
Also, they may like to see this same kind of initiative when it comes to your family. Maybe you could use a PORTION of the oney you raise, to help pay for your parents’ gas, or help with the groceries, etc. Something like that would let them know that not only do you care for our 4 legged friends, but you care for your own flesh and blood as well.
