How to approach my parents on quitting soccer?

Max Garnick: How to approach my parents on quitting soccer?
I’ve played many sports in my childhood, one of which is soccer. Freshman year is a quarter of the way done and soccer tryouts r next week. I love golf and tennis, but not so much soccer. I really don’t want to take soccer to the high school level but im pretty sure my parents ont approve. Any tips on how I should approach my parents on quitting soccer?

tell your parents you arent playing soccer
its your choice
they dont like it? what are they gonna do, chain you to the soccer field?

Answer by Ginny C
Just do really badly in the tryouts so you won’t make it 😉

Answer by pinhed_1976
tell them that none of your teammates is gay, and you feel out of place

Answer by Max
Just tell your parents, sit down and talk with them. It also helps to have an alternative sport during the soccer season, so if you do it shouldnt be too hard.

soccer sucks

Answer by queenbeebeemarie
Just sit them down and tell them how you feel

Answer by Kat B
Approach them at a time when they’re comfortable and explain to them that soccer isn’t something you truly enjoy and that you’d like to pursue your greater interests.

Answer by Maximus A
Say, “Mom, Dad, I’m not going to play soccer anymore. It’s not what I love. If you want me to be happy you will accept my decision.”

Answer by b
“mom, dad, soccer sucks balls and i want to quit”

Answer by molly
try kicking a ball thru the living room window when they are trying to watch tv. Then come in all flustered and say “see? I suck at this-I quit.”

Answer by Matt
Just tell them you don’t want to play and that when your not playing soccer you can work on your golf swing. And if your rents are real AHoles and they make you go to try outs, just play as bad as you possibly can so you don’t make the team.

Answer by 2Shae
Tell them that you want to try out other sports, like gold and tennis, but in order to do that you must give up soccer, as it would be TOO MUCH for you to handdle. I’m sure they will understand.

when quitting something, give them a GOOD REASON WHY, as parents are more understanding when there is a reason behind it, not just “IM QUITTING BECAUSE I FEEL LIKE IT”.

Answer by steve1337
sounds like you already get enough exercise, so there doesn’t seem to be much of a reason to keep doing it if you do like it.

talk with them about it, make sure they’re alright with it.

if you’re living with them another 4 years you have to be civil with another…

good luck, dont let them force you into it if they dont have a good reason

Answer by Bill B
Tell your parents the truth. You don’t want to play anymore. It’s not like you don’t have other interest.

Answer by Paul
just tell them that u dont like soccer…. its ur choice anyways, on what sport ur wanting to play…. i think they will understand

Answer by the tot
They will understand and why are you quiting soccer the real football

Answer by Alec S
Maybe you could pick a fall sport that you want to do instead of soccer. You could tell your parents that you don’t want to play soccer but you’ll still get enough exercise because your playing….whatever new sport you want. You could play football or run cross country.

Answer by soccerchica1295
before the tryouts try going golfing or playing tennis with your parents. if they see that you seem happier while playing either of these rather than playing soccer, maybe that will help. also try going for a walk with them and talking to them.

Answer by The Old School Patriot
Tell them that this is no longer something you love to do.

By the way, why don’t you try your hand at basketball or something a bit more masculine in nature?

Answer by Dan
Just be honest and upfront with your parents. Explain to them that you prefer golf and tennis to soccer.

You may also tell them that you believe a sport like golf could help you network in the future, depending on what type of career you plan to follow in the future.
