How much should I charge someone to garden in my back yard?

Citizen: How much should I charge someone to garden in my back yard?
Because they use water that all of the roommate pay for, I want to make it fair to everyone but there is no way to determine exactly how much more water the garden uses.
Should I charge them a full portion of the bill (ie if there are 3 renters and 1 gardener, charge everyone 25% of the bill each month)?
Should I charge them a flat fee? If so, how much?
The garden is 13’x10′.

I would charge them some of the crop. You can’t beat fresh veggies. I think the gardener would love that and you won’t have to take care of the yard. Win win for everybody.

Answer by Victoria B
you should give them at least $ 50 an hour JK i don’t know

Answer by QuantumB
Are all of the roomates going to eat what the garden produces? I think this is the deciding factor. I know rent is high but you are to be blunt sounding a bit petty. Sorry.

Answer by Julie
the renter needs to share his crop with the house.. that’s all.

if no sharing is taking place, subtract the average previous water bill from the last one and ask the gardener to pay the difference.

I’d prefer the veggies, if it were me!

not a very big garden, just hope it rains a lot. lol i dont think it would take that much water as long as they didnt hook up a sprinkler. may never have to water it, but===. part of the crop sounds fine, but it dont help the others who are paying part of the water bill. good question.

Don’t make it complicated. You could just charge them $ 10 per month. This can be applied to water if you’d like to make things fair for other renters. I prefer indoor gardening with plant containers and flower pots. This way you won’t use as much water and you can still grow plants like tomatoes, herbs, and more. https://www.newprocontainers.com

Well mister “skin-flint” penny pincher, you must be really hard up for cash, the logical thing is to get “grazing rights” to the crop this will allow you to take what you need when you need it from the garden…………but if you are one of those who Annalise things here are some factual numbers to base your decision on…the average irrigation requirements for agriculture to sub-stain a crop is 5000 gallons to the acre, per watering session(this is 43560 square feet) you have a whopping 130 square feet……….so if you do the math you will see that this equates to 0.11 gallons per square foot per watering session…….this also equates to 14.92 gallons for your size garden…here in Florida (i don’t know where you live) but we pay on average 0.007 (NOT EVEN A PENNY) for our water….using this factor it would cost 0.10 cents per watering session……….in my opinion the value to access fresh veggies. far out weighs the cost of the water
