As far as I know there are no laws about maternity leave. It is up to the individual company how long they give you. When I had my first the company I worked for didn’t have maternity leave, they allowed you to use short term disability but that only gave you 6 weeks. Every company is different. Normal range (that I know of) for maternity leave is 6 weeks to 3 months. Some give more though.

Answer by j mother
your should get 6 weeks for vaginal deliverly and 8 weeks for a c section. I had a c section and got 8 weeks but was only pd for 6, thats the way my disability coverage paid it out. Each employer is different.

It all depends on where you work. Some big companies you have to have been working there for a year before you get paid leave and when they mean paid leave it may only be 60-70% of your actual pay. And its usually only 6 to 8 weeks. Smaller places like where I work don’t pay for maternity leave. I just have to save money.

We don’t get “paid” leave, but what you are entitled to is 12 weeks UNPAID time off per FMLA if you and your company qualifies.

Average time is 6 weeks, but you’re allowed up to 12 if you have a doctor’s note. And it’s not necessarily paid. It all depends on your employer. Like at my office, I have to use vacation time for the first 2 weeks and then short term disability kicks in at 2/3 of my regular pay.

And maternity leave is protected under the FMLA (family medical leave act), but all it does is guarantee you don’t lose your job, it doesn’t require that your employer pay you.

I have short term disability through my employer which will pay me 60% of my wages. They allow 6 weeks for a vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for a c-section. My job is “saved” for longer than that, but I will only get paid for that amount of time.

The company I work for’s policy is they save your job for the amount of time you have been employed by them if under a year. If more than a year than the FMLA would kick in.

Ha Ha! I don’t get any! I’m using my two weeks vacation pay. Then for the other 4-6 weeks, I’m on my own. My insurance company doesn’t offer Short Term Disability and so ever since I found out I was pregnant, Ive been saving.

i know its 3 months of maternity leave so it should be 3 months of works pay? just guessing

Answer by Renee
They don’t have to give you any of it paid.

Answer by dueoct16boy#3
Many companies still don’t offer actual paid leave but through the laws you can get 6 weeks unpaid sometimes longer depending on the situation but many companies still won’t pay for it. I know the place i was working for would allow me as much time as I needed for maternity leave but none of it would be paid and they would only totally secure my job for 6 weeks after the baby was born unless there was a good medical reason to extend. My friends job was the same way. Just really varies from each company.

I don’t think there is a law saying that they have to give you paid maternity leave but they do have to give you leave as long as the Dr has you under his care ( meaning that the Dr has you at stay at home). Some of my friends had no paid leave but I have one who got the whole 6 weeks paid. She used her vacation time that was paid so it wasn’t totally maternity leave. Good luck!
