FizzyBubbler Lives Forever!: How much money do you have to steal before the police are allowed to shoot you?
Is there a cut off point?
Clearly the police would not open fire on a purse snatcher, but if you grabbed a bag of the back of an armored car and ran, they likely would.
So how much is enough? Would that amount of money where it begins to be ok to shoot people over money amount to the value of a human life?

Technically, they’re not permitted to shoot at anyone unless they or someone else is being physically threatened by the perpetrator. Look at all the police officers who have been prosecuted for shooting unarmed people who ran. Some may act outside of what procedure calls for, but they usually don’t get by with shooting people without just cause.
Threaten a life with a cop around and you’re a dead man. Get unruly and not easily controllable without threatening life (but perhaps limb) and you’ll ride the lightning (meaning he’ll melt the taser on you).
EDIT: By the way, if you think that cops LIKE killing people, you’re insane, ignorant, and foolish. I know one who has nightmares about having to kill a convicted felon who tried to stab his partner.
Answer by AyatollahIt depends on the cop and if you have killed one. You never know if today is your lucky day;
cops are after all – hired killers.Answer by Sean
The police are here to protect and serve criminals, we protect ourselves with our right to bear arms.
The police protect criminals from justice by guaranteeing them a fair trial, it’s their job to apprehend them not shoot them.
Answer by Leslie is hotIt has nothing to do with amounts.
Charlie Keating stole well over a billion dollars, and is still around and alive. Indeed, he did less incarceration time than most armed robbers do who get away with fifty bucks!
Enron stole even more.
In most jurisdictions, if you do a small armed robbery, you’re as good as dead…sometimes, even if you aren’t the right guy.
The reaction does NOT have anything to do with the size of the stolen goods, or their value.
Answer by The fed up matthew™It depends if you run away from the cop or towards the cop. I heard that in California if you’re a previously convicted felon suspected of a new crime and are fleeing that you’re fair game but I’ve never verified that.Answer by The Nonpareil
LOL – A Police Officer is allowed to shoot someone only when their life or the life of another is in danger.
At that point, a Police Officer is trained to shoot to kill.
Remember……..Police really don’t shoot to kill. They shoot to stay alive.
Answer by mleeSince White collar criminals get cushy prison cells and they usually steal the most… I’m guessing the less you steal the more likely you are to get shot?
Try to get a conviction on a wrongful death caused by a police officer. Maybe your question should read, What profession(s) allow(s) you to kill citizens of your own country with little to no legal consequence? Law Enforcement Officer and Medicaid Provider
