allaboutcars19: My husband put a deposit on a cruise for a wedding we were going to attend. How do I get the money back?
If you pulled out with a plenty of time left you got your deposit back. Well we did and we haven’t seen any of the money yet. My husband has been trying to contact them via e-mail and phone but they just brush him off. I told him if anything report them to the BBB but he just is so tired of dealing with it. How do I take over this matter. If it was just a few bucks I would let it go but it’s 400 dollars and we need to pay bills.
It was done by credit card. The wedding was his cousin’s and he doesn’t want to tell him what’s going on because his cousin loves this cruise place. It was a “barefoot” cruise and we booked it with the actually ship (they had a director that handles everything) so it wasn’t an agency.

Unless you bought cancellation insurance when you bought your tickets, I do not think you will get your money back.
Pays to spend a few more dollars… just in case your situation turns around and plans have to be changed.
Answer by Renz bwell last summer we have also that problem in cruising thing then we try to get our money because something got wrong then i just receive it last week and said in the letter it just a little Delay! maybe yours is also Delay but make sure you still contact with the company! thanks for asking!Answer by US_DR_JD
If you went through a travel agent, and used a credit card for the deposit, they should be able to get a credit to your account quickly. If you went through the cruise line, then it may take a little longer, because as you said you get tired of messing with it. If you paid cash or check then the delay may be longer, as they have to check the account and cut the check to return the money. If you went through a travel agent, they should be able to refund your money quickly. Again, this all assumes you were not past the deadline as you noted.Answer by cruizenluver
A lot depends on how you paid your deposit. If you paid by check or cash to the group leader of the wedding, then you need to talk to them. They can cancel your cruise at the cruiseline and actually keep your money. If the deposit was placed on a credit card, then as soon as it was cancelled at the cruiseline, then it should have be refunded immediatly. Contact the travel agent in charge, or the group leader and let them know that you need the refund. Yes, you should be fully refunded if you cancelled outside the penalties of the cruiseline. Or talk to your group leader, they can actually set it up that cash money is not refunded. Good Luck.Answer by Tivogal
it is good to buy the travel insurance, if just for that possibility for cancellling the trip. I would contact the cruiseline to find out if the money has been sent. Also i would contact the credit card company for some assistance if you didnt’ get the money.
also the BBB is a good idea. the BBB probably has some good help for you.
take care and good luck.Answer by Aschwin
Simple, contact your credit card company and get a “dispute form”. Sent it back to them with as much information that might help them (prints of the emails, etc.) and they will do what they can.Answer by stephanie s
i had to cancel once with carnival and i got the money back on my checking account(iused a debitcard to book) in two monthsAnswer by DougT
You would be better off to dispute the claim with your cc company. If you booked with Windjammer Barefoot Cruises, you may be out of luck getting money back directly from them, as they are experiencing big financial problems.
WBC recently had several ships “held” in port until they paid fees in cash and paid striking workers that had not been paid in months.
